Linking Question:

Speaking in terms of general impact, religion plays a massive part in history. It is hard to look back at history and examine any historical conflict or impacting movement that did not in some way or another relate to religion. This relation can stem anywhere from out-right attacks on religion (such as the current Arab Palestinian Conflict which involves the three largest secs of religion; Muslim, Jewish and Christian), to war based on specific religious beliefs or principles; for example, the Crusades, which was a recapture of Jerusalem (which Christians considered the Navel of the World, but where many religions have important connections to).

In addition, religion also effects history in a less aggressive way by simply influencing the wills of men. Religiously influenced people have been driven to do great and world changing things. For example, when the Pilgrims left their homes in the old world searching for religious freedom, they put in motion the establishment of the United States which eventually caused a drastic change in history to say the least.

What Role Does Religion Play In History?

The First Movable Type or Printing Press as we know it...

Block printing first came to Europe in order to print religious symbols onto cloths. It was from this original machine or idea that the revolutionary printing press came about.
